As the title states, can I use a hacksaw to cut fiberglass rods.

no they are white, I was at true value hardware store looking for PVC or Nylon rods but they had fiberglass rods on some reflectors.

No It Wont Break If Scored If It Is Real Fiberglass. And Not So Sure I Would Use These In My Tank. It Will Need To Be Cut And Yes You Can Use A Fine Toothed Hacksaw Or Jigsaw

each reflector cost $2.97 & had a 3 1/2 foot fiberglass rod attached.
NYreefNoob would you be concerned about how they were manufactured?
When the owner asked me what I needed the PVC or Nylon rods for I told him it was for a saltwater tank, he said I have fiberglass rods which would not corrode in saltwater.

I drilled a hole on the back of some base rock & inserted the rod & it was firmly in place. Bob I never cure base rock, I just boil them in water & put them in the tank & never had a problem. Before people tell me I have to cure dead rock I figured let me lay this out there.

I never said anything about the rock... But I just got some marco rocks and slammed them after a ro rinse... But I have a 265 gal system..and a 4 hrs good bacteria doser...

No Bob I know you said nothing about the rock but I read your post about Marco rock the other day & I figured before I get the e-mails about curing base rock let me put it out there.

It's been up for 2 months, 30 gal oceanic cube with a 21 gal fuge. I have live rock in there from my 12gal pod. I just have 4 lbs of base rock.

I researched Polyester Resin and all indications were that it is safe for a SW tank Fiberglass strands are usually used in conjuction with either Epoxy or Polyester Resin. I would suggest taping the area to be cut and to use a cutoff wheel to reduce splintering while you cut it. I'm sure a hacksaw will work also.

The thing to be concerned with is any coatings on it other than the binding agents.

Hey guys I decided that since my water volume is relatively small & my corals & clam are doing great I am not going to risk putting 4 lbs of base rock in without curing. So I quess I will wait until I start a larger cube tank.
