How many people have had a angel that nipped at corals?
How many people have had an angel leave corals alone?

I'm debating getting an african flameback angel, curious about this issue.

Thanks

I learned this the expensive way. I love large angels and when I first was getting corals they started taking out most of them(actually I thought the corals were dying because I was doing something wrong) and I did not have other tanks to move them to. I was able to save a few corals, but the damage was done already, most of my polyps, zoa's, softies took a big beaten and died. This is what happens when you don't research. Now my angels are in there seperate tanks and the reef tanks will NEVER have an angel in it. One good thing was the angels got nice and fat from it...

This is a small angel you are talking about and not a Queen angel, so it might be different.

"Do you think it would be safe for me to walk over to that tiger cage and stick my arm in?"

The only predictable fish is a dead one like Dean says.

Chief-
Wouldnt it be cool if you could stick your arm in the tiger cage? Heck, maybe you can even pet the tiger....
And all I lose is a few zoas, or something(not an arm) and the added beauty of this great looking and active fish seems well worth the risk to me...
I didnt know they nip at acans, that could be a problem....I have a few
zoas I wouldnt mind so much...but acans!!!
Im thinking about it....
Ive heard its 50/50, which to me seems well worth it...but is it really 50/50(that means if I buy 2, 1 wont nip at corals: I wouldn mind getting one, then exchanging if needed)

I think the 24 is a bit small for the flame. as it grows it could get frustrated then start lashing out at the coral :) really

The other thing is that angels will also nip at clams. My ex-boyfriend lost a beautiful clam in under a week because his coral beautiful started nipping at it. I don't remember if you said you were going to be keeping clams.

Additionally, you should think about tank size not so much for swimming room but for absorption of loss. Someone like Jonathan has a big tank, so even if his flame started nipping at some of his corals, he might not even notice. In a smaller tank, you are going to notice the loss of your livestock more because there isn't as much room.
