I'm still a newbie, I noticed some white dots on my fish nothing major but it bugs me. I was curious to know how many of you have this in your reef and how do you deal with it.
My parameters are all good NO I DO NOT QT MY FISH (I know shame on me) and for the past 2 weeks my fish have been dropping 1 by 1 , 2 by 2 almost every other day I find my crabs, snails and shrimp feasting on a dead fish, WTF is going on!!!!! I am so pissed! Luckily they are not expensive fish but thats not the point, I .like he fish I have and had and want them to survive, I make sure I feed them good food, make sure I do regular water changes I check the parameters often because I'm paranoid. I'm paranoid because this is what took me out of the hobby years ago unexplained losses.
The reason why I ask the question above, can this be the reason, parasites? All the fish no matter how much, no matter when, eat everything and anything I feed them, no signs of illness but for those stupid white dots! I am debating on putting a UV for a couple hours a day what do you think? I was also thinking about taking the fish out and QTng them but how the heck will I catch them all without destroying my scaping? Please help me and keep in this hobby because these types of things discourage me I dont want to buy living things and then see them die in my tank, I buy because I want to keep them alive, healthy and make them a nice home!

no signs of illness but for those stupid white dots!

Those stupid white dots are not too stupid. They are smart enough to be enjoying the feasts in your tank. I can almost guarantee that your fish have ich. I believe all fish in a LFS have ich unless they are treated. In a store where new fish are arriving daily it is impossable to have ich free fish.
I also do not quarantine but our tanks are very different. For the first ten years my tank was an ich magnet. I had to keep copper in there continousely. After that period of time the ich was no longer a problem. But in a new tank that is very rarely the case.
I am sure you know how to rid your tank of ich and it is not easy. There are many posts about thid disease. After you eradicate the tank of ich you will need to quarantine. There is no other way my friend.
Good luck.
