If you have one that moves around alot chances are it will get sucked up. I don't know of anyway to stop it, just hope and pray it stays in one spot away from any PH. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

Some survive.

Mine got sucked into a Maxijet intake twice. I had to take scissors and cut away the intake screen to free the mangled pedicle of the anemone, but both times it managed to survive and now its 6 years old and has split twice. I don't have any magic advice to prevent the possibility, but you can read about what I did on My Anemone Page. Here's a picture of the little guy six years ago and then a picture from last summer.

Anyways good luck and keep us posted

The best way to insure that the anemone will be as safe as possible is to cover the intakes with some sort of cover. Some PH's come with screens, some have attachments you can put on and some you may have to cover with mesh. I lost 2 Bubble tips to a Maxijet and an aquaclear and it was like anemone soup. Lots of stuff dies. Then I found MR and tried again with advice here and had some luck but realized that anemone's weren't really the right thing for me so I gave it away and I have been anemone free since.

Do what works for you is the best advice I can give you.

Thanks for all the advice. The strainer attachments for the maxijets have very fine openings like mesh, that's why I though the holes may be small enough so that the anemone won't be sucked in!

Hi Joe,

Your anemone is stunning! I wanted to get a ritteri anemone but thought my tank may be too small - but yours is amazing!

It's not that it won't get sucked in, but getting caught in the strainer will cause damage. You can only protect yourself so much with powerheads. You can encase them in acrylic with small holes for water intake and for discharge as well and still have a problem. My Clowns host a giant mushroom I got from dean quite some time ago they love it. Anemone's are not the only answer to clowns keep that in mind. My old Clarkii Clown trio hosted a colt coral.

it really depends on the anemone. If your anemone is happy, it won't wander around. I had one in 55 gal tank, it got minced becused it didn't like the flow of the water.
I now have a BTA in a 120Gal tank, and it moved once, but in the end it move back to it's original place. I have Tunze in he tank, and it's made no attempts to get near it. (Knock on wood). if you get an anemone let it find a place in the tank before you install the power heads, it may help it from getting sucked up.
