Skimmer pump reccomendation

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a pump for my skimmer to replace the rio 800 rvt. Mine finally gave out and upon going to order a new one, i read some horrible reviews about them leaking copper into the water or worse catching fire upon failure. I actually did not have a problem with them other than only lasting 8 mos-year, but for 20 bucks they were replaceable and the venturi worked well.
