My ro/di unit has really slowed down - does anyone use a booster pump and what are the results? Basically, it the pump worth it and where would I get one locally? Thanks
I would try to figure out why your unit slowed down all of a sudden. Perhaps a drop in water temperature? Maybe the membrane needs to be flushed? An obstruction? Lower water pressure? Maybe media needs replacing?
Bigbris1 - I am sure that the temp is lower (unit is in basement); just replaced media 3-4 months ago; I guess I should check for an obstruction - thanks - Rob
nyc water pressure is adequate for r/o units unless you live in an apartment then i would look into a booster pump. you also have to remember that it is winter and r/o units tend to slow down product water when temps are under 70 degrees.
i do not need a pump but i use it anyway to get more production. change some of your filters to see the difference 1st. it might be time. also check your tds meter to see the quality of the water that is coming out of it
The most common problem causing decreased production is usually clogged prefilters. As mentioned above - this time of year cold tapwater is also an issue. We have a calculator on our site that lets you input your water temperature and water pressure and see what that does to the expected production from an x gallon per day membrane.
To get a feel for what a booster pump will do for you, input your water temperature and 90 psi - the pumps make a huge difference in production.
