So Does Anybody Else Feel Violated After Dropping 420.00 On A Vortech Pump And Have It Not Be That Good. For That Much Money They Better Not Make Noise When It Is In Pulse Mode, I Would Never Buy Again. Thoughts?

I've got 5 and they don't make noise either when properly aligned. A little out of alignment and yes they chatter a bit in pulse mode.
I agree 100%

Sometimes after I remove it,clean it, then replace it, the VorTech makes noise...I just adjust it slightly, a few degree turn usually works. Did you adjust for the thickness of your glass? It is designed to be an exact amout apart, so it is adjustable for different thickness glass-that might be the cause of noise, Im not really sure.

i keep 2 on my 120 in antisync reefcrest mode, not much noise at all.

I'm done with tunze pumps, the only other thing I would try would be some wavy seas.

I think its an awesome pump for the backdraft alone. No other pumps i have seen give u that as good as the vortek and most times it kills any dead spots in your tank. wireless pump sync, wave modes, battery backup, low profile.

If your having problems with the noise your either not aligning it the right way or haven't broken it in. Mines barely audible. And if that barely audible noise is getting to you your just beeing picky because im sure 10 other things in your tank make alot more noise.

Whether its worth the money thats a different story.

I just got two Vortechs for my 120 - and couldn't be happier. Had two Tunzes - both crapped out (the C-clips went first, then the rusted shaft).

Not much of an issue with noise (at least yet.).

i have 2 of them running and the sound from them is a very faint hum, as far as worth the $.....well there are a lot of things in this hobby that are way over priced.....equipment, livestock and so on. would you feel better spending that money on a tunze? vortechs are cheaper, provide a cleaner profile and can be mounted just about anywhere.

I just installed one last night (thanks ocean!) and I have to say the dry end is a little loud in pulse mode, but definately easier to live with in reef crest mode. Thats with all of 12 hours running in tank, so it could get better. I've always heard the dry end compared to a playstation 2 controller vibrating in the ecotech forum on RC, and I think thats an accurate analogy. The flow is excellent, though. It made my modded nanostreams look pretty wimpy and it isnt much bigger. HTH

Lunner,

I have found in my SPS dominated display that the Vortech is the best for laminar flow at close ranges - I have corals about a foot from the direct flow of the pump and have no problems with dying tissue (tenius, steve elias blue stag, german green with blue polyps).

Conversely, on the other side of my tank, I have a Tunze 6000 blowing from the back left corner diagonally across the tank. 2 foot from that tunze I have 2 corals - a table and a blue ORA tortosa - both have lost flesh on the back side (the TUNZE blew the flesh right off) - the table ahs since reocvered and extending polyps like a furry kitten - the tort had to be cut down to a frag smaller than where the flow is - I am hoping when it grows, it naturally compensates for the strong flow of the tunze and grows heartier and thicker.

I really like the vortech pumps. The sheer range of features makes the value of this pump a no-brainer. The pumps might be noisy if they are not properly aligned, adjusted for thickness and they need about a week of use to break in. That being said, just like every product made there are some defective units. If your pump is unusually loud even after you've checked the alignment and spacing than you should call up Ecotech or your vendor and see about a replacement.

I just installed a 4 pump array this weekend on an 8ft bow front and the increase in flow in this giant tank was quite dramatic.

I have a bunch of the first gen vortechs in the store and 2 on my 120. There is nothing in this price range and availability that compares as far as I am concerned. The difference in the tanks they have been installed on is visible almost immediately as far as fish activity and coral health.
