Some Thoughts on new possible ways to rid empty tank of parasites

I was recently thinking about some new ways to rid my now empty of fish 125 fowlr of parasites quicker than 8 weeks. I then began thiking about possible strategies that would kill the parasites without all the bacteria and also not using chemicals. All of these methods would obviously require tanks to be empty of fish and coral, but possibly bring treatment down to a cpl weeks or a month.

1) Possibly intentionally spike the ammonia in the tank making it uninhabitable for most things. Not sure of the affects of ammonia on parasites and how it would effect bacteria. Ammonia doesnt kill rock or it would kill all rock during cycles. Just a thought. Even if it causes a cycle, four weeks is better than 8

2) The other is raising temperature into 90's. Speed their cycle up tremendously and I do think rock could live through these temperatures as im sure we are all experienced in summers before we got chillers temperature rising to temps like this.

Any unconventional thoughts, besides medication hypo or 8 week vacancy would be appreciated.

What kind of parasites are you looking to kill? The best way would be to leave the tank fallow for 2 months to get rid of ich. For many other types of parasites I would break the tank down, cool the rock and start over again. For Ich if you raise the tamp to the 90's that will cause the eggs to hatch quickly and then they would die of starvation after a while.

Patience is the key, if you rush you could run into the same problem down the road.

1. If "pods" can survive elevated levels of ammonia, it stands to reason so can [SIZE=-1]Cryptocaryon parasites. Especially those encysted.[/SIZE]
2. Assuming you have sped up their life cycle via elevated temperatures, how will you be certain they've all died, if you wait less than the recommend time to reintroduce fish?

I am waiting, im on 3 weeks now, ive just been thinking about it, and for future implications if there are any ways to manipulate the conditions to makie the water uninhabitable for parasites but bacteria will survive. THIS IS COMPLETELY THEORETICAL I was just pondering it because I added some semi-cured rock to the uninhabitable tank and I satrted thinking about the effects on the parasites the ammonia would have, if any spiked as a result of the new semi-cured rock

Chief, I am pretty sure it was brooklynella, by the death toll and look of the deceased. However their was some ich in the main tank for a cpl days before fish were QT'd

Fish are more susceptible to cryptocaryon during an ammonia spike, so it seems the parasite can survive well enough to continue its life cycle during such an occurrence. From reading that post and the number of references it received, you need to get your hands on Basleer's book.

Spedier method is as follows:

1 Drain tank
2 remove all substrate and dispose of
3 take all rock and leave it outside in this 18 degree weather for about 2 weeks
4 after 2 weeks re set up tank and re cycle tank
5 pray

Yea i think with 4 weeks for cycle and 2 weeks for freeze of rocks, and the head ache and cost of substrate, 8 weeks alone sounds pretty good.

Quicker in this hobby usually means more stressful and more expensive in the long run, but you know that already
