So now that my RBTA is open, and in the one spot and behaving like a model citizen my carpet, for the first time ever (had it over a month) decides to go for a pleasant stroll ---- down to the sand right on top of my plate coral.

That the scene I woke up to this morning - my green carpet fused to my plate. Well, I know you're meant to just let them be when the go walkies, but I didn't want any more damage done. They both look kind of ratty already especially the plate, all retracted.

It took me ages to coax the anemone off the carpet and even then some of his tentacles stayed stuck to the plate!!! Then he decided to stick to my hand and not let go. His foot was not attached to I made sure not to rip that. Anyhow I've put him back on his rock. The clowns are bewildered and upset that their home decided to up and move too.

What made him move you ask? I suspect it may be the fact I've augmented and have been playing around with flow the past few days. Still have yet to find a satisfactory solution. 1x koralia 4 and 1 x koralia 2 in my 55g....we'll see. I don't think water's a problem as I did a full test of parameters yesterday and they're all good (you can see them in my RBTA thread from yesterday.)

Just needed to vent. Here's hoping the plate and the carpet make full recoveries....

Dane you're having a heck of a time getting your corals to stay in one place! Maybe try and get the flow issue settled so they stop wandering?
If your carpet and plate have managed to off each other..why not just get a frogspawn for your clowns and call it a day? :)
Hope you carpet & plate make it!!

yes non-moving corals are sounding better and better kathy. What is the likelihood of the carpet and plate croaking? Anything I can do to help (keep them alive that is not help them croak)?

lol..wish I could tell you Dane..I like my corals stationary, as in lots of glue :)
Not sure how much power a carpet whacks another coral with..only know I wouldn't trust one around a fish...:(
Hopefully someone familiar with both will chime in here.

As already stated by Kathy, and your self; get the flow from the koralias corrected asap! Do get the flow from them away from the anemone. Not sure obviously, but something tells me that the carpet was getting too much flow which is the reason it up and moved.
At this point all you can do for the anemone & plate is hope for the best.
I lost my long tentacle plate because it kept moving over by one of my trachy. If your lucky, your's will recover since you got them apart kind of early. Let's hope the anemone decides to stay where you put it.
Do run some carbon, just to get rid of some of the chemical warfare that went on.;)
This is just my opinion, but a 55g tank is really on the small size to keep a carpet & a rbta to boot.:)
Kathy says to get the clowns a frog spawn. Honestly it is not the same thing for the clowns. At night the frog spawn or any other coral will retract, and the clowns will not have a nice little bed as they do with their anemone. I took my clowns rbta away, and now the poor little guys are just hanging around the spot where the rbta was wondering where it went. They look so lost, they won't even bother to go to any of the other corals I hoped they would turn too.:(
I hope something of what I've said helps at least a little bit!:(

Thanks Awilda. I have put a filter bag over the Koralia 4 for the time being, because I still haven't found a way to direct it without annoying something.

I know the carpet will become too big for my tank :( but at the moment it's tiny not 3 or 4". In fact, my BTA is probably bigger. And it's a beautiful neon green :)

Let's hope it's ok. It's put down it's foot again back up on the rock and the plate's tentacles are starting to emerge again.

Something to consider to make your carpet stay put! Buy a PVC endcap of appropriate size and place the foot of the carpet into it and allow it to settle in and then it should stay put and it also gives you some flexibility on putting it where YOU want :) I have 2 in PVC endcaps and they havent made any attempt to move.

The best thing to do is to:
1. Get rid of anything you don't want your anemones to kill
or
2. Get rid of your anemones

Anemones walk, it doesn't require any stimulus from you or your tank. In fact if you create an environment where they are 100% happy and never need to move, they will split and their "kids" will walk. It's inevitable, they are alive just like your fish. There is no way to keep them in one spot.

If you do a search here or on any thread for for "anemone" you'll find many:
"My anemone is a model citizen and hasn't moved in 6 months!"

then a month later the same user will post:
"2 RBTAs for sale"

They move it's what they do

:)

i will once my sis gets here with the camera. Not much I can do for it unfortunately though. It's put its foot down at least. But looking ragged. I guess that's what we'd look like if we'd been in a fight I suppose :scratchch

Thats a great idea. Im gonna have to purchase one at HD to put my anemones in it. It will get tough to get my 8" green carpet anemones off the roc k but my GBTA is easily removable from the glass.
Good luck with your anemone dane. Hope it makes it.

I've read that fungia corals pack quite a punch. Still one of my personal favorites though. It's the only animal I've known that can litterally come back from the dead. Wish some of my cats over the years could have done that. :sad2:
