I'm going to be giving a deltec 702 a try for a bit on my tank. The only place it will fit is in what used to be my frag tank that is gravity fed off of the display. It's a thirty gallon breeder that is fed by one 1/2" spaflex tube, with 2, 1/2" drains returning to the sump.
I've been told that it is best to gravity feed the skimmer, and that you want about 800gph going through it. I can gravity feed it but it will be much less than the 800gph. It would have to be fed by the 1/2 drain coming off the display.
The best option I have is to feed it using a quiet one 3000, which is 780gph. It would sit in the 30 gallon tank and probably strip the water pretty well before it returned to the sump. For those that have used the 702 do you think this will provide it enough garbage to skim?
One other option I have is to increase the flow from the display to the 30 gallon using a pump set in the displays overflow. I could hook this to the skimmer and take the gravity drain offline.
