i was offered 50 lbs of live rock for 40 bucks ......
the guy doesnt know much about reef tanks and so on...
he used to use it in his freshwater tank with chichids or something like that and they have been sitting in his backyard for over 2 years he says.....
i have 90 gallon reef set up with only have the tank filled with live rock and id like to fill up the rest ....
i also have a 65 gallon sitting around with a hang on ecosystem (sump/refugium) , which i was considering to use to try and cure the live rock does any body think it worth a shot??

Don't use it. You have no idea what could be in those rocks. pesticides, nitrogen fertilizer, bird poop, etc. If you want to save money buy used equiptment from people on Manhattan reefs.

Why would someone use expensive live rock in a cichlid tank?

I wouldn't trust any rock used in a freshwater application, especially if it is supposed to be live rock.

I would assume he means Tufa rock which is sometimes used in cichlid tanks to raise(?) the ph. It was never "live" rock but it looks like live rock and is made of calcium carbonate.
