Grey Crap on Rocks

I've got this seemingly grey fuzzy stuff appearing on my rocks which easily brushes off with a toothbrush. Then a few days later it's back. What could it be?

I want to say it's some sort of algae, but cant be sure. HELP!

probably detritus. i have it on my rocks as well. I use a powerhead to blow it off my rocks

That's the thing, it doesn't come off withthe turkey baster, only the toothbrush. Looks kinda like dead algae for lack of color.

I'm guessing you have low light?? It's probably detritus...

i knew my dog drew on my rocks with the grey crayola crayons damn dog......i added about 30 more pounds of established rock to my tank and all of sudden within the next 2 days it was gone....it used to look like as if there was algae growing on the rocks and someone shook up the sand and rocks and the tank got dusty which is probably what it was but everything is looking good now so im happy now....good luck getting the crayon off your rocks :teeth:
