Canopy Height for 250W MH ??

So i just got a really nice retro - MH (250w -14K) and want to implement into a DIY canopy for my 20G ...

Now i know what your thinking wow 250w on a 20G but i figure if i mount into a canopy at least 16" high off the tank and mount some small fans will i still burn the corals lol and recieve that crazy heat? What would anyone recommend?

Tested it last night temp jumped from 78 - 80 in 3 hrs and the fixture was 10.5" off tank ...Tank is the High version and i believe its 16.5" tall ...

250w over a 20 is not bad if you have a chiller. with no chiller that would be dangerous.

what type of bulb is it, and what fixture is it in?

if you dont put it in a canopy and have it hanging and use fans you might be ok, i had a 250w mh on my ap 24g in a canopy and had fans still had to use a chiller. bottom of fixture was about 8" off top of water
