I'm in the process of setting up a new tank....150gallon (4x2x2.5) inwall setup with a 30gallon or 55 gallon sump.

The tank is drillled for a closed loop and I'm just wondering if I should use that in conjunction with a tunze 6100.

Also thinking about the return pump. I have a sequence dart that cali_reef was using on the closed loop so I was thinking of maybe

(1) using the dart for the closed loop with a SCWD + one tunze 6100 for circulation and a snapper for a return pump or

(2) Not using the closed loop and using the dart as a return pump + 2 tunzes for circulation

Also for consideration I'm thinking of starting this as a fish only with live rock for now and eventually migrating to a mixed reef tank.

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

I guess I could always plumb it for the closed loop and not use it.

Pro: No powerheads in tank, Cons: eventually will be more costly to run....with electricity at a premium these days...

If you use the reefcentral.com electricity cost calculator (based on 14 cents/kwh) it will take approximately 3 years for one tunze to pay itself back.....depending on which model

I like the clean look of a closed loop ( NO PH in the tank). I think you should use something other that the scwd for alternating flow... maybe and OM or other device like it.

thanks tony and john.

Leaning toward running the closed loop plus a vortech. John: You're right on the SCWD. OM 4 way would be much better

Tony: Are you around tomorrow for the sump? Your 30 cube is great!

John: Can't wait to see more pics.....Great job on the cube
