Always looking for a good LFS. Found one last night that is the top on my list. It's called House Of Fins. Never knew it existed... Had more fish and coral on the shelves than I have ever seen... (I have no ties to any of these stores)

Wondering what else is out there that I don't know about. Thought I would start a thread that we could list all the LFS in the tri-state area, with ratings.

I'm surprised Petgoods didn't get a review :tongueani ....

If you need to pick up some quick dry goods though they aren't bad ... .:shhh:

And i'll have to disagree somewhat on Jawz there prices are like a 3 on the scale (way to high)
unless you know the guys or can haggle it down ... there display tanks on a good note are very nice in my opinion ..

Curious. Like to know why you say that.

Jim from Beach is very nice, and has LOADS of used tanks and stands in the basement. Got my 90G bow front, stand, and hood from him for 400.00. Was maybe a year old and in like new condition. Fish (from back room only) are in good health. He was always very willing to help me. Even lent me equiptment at times. More than I can say for any other business I have delt with.

I would sill go there if I didn't move back down to lower westchester.

Exotic pet warehouse is in the process of rebuilding so it looks like Sh*t now, and the owner is loud and obnoxious, but nothing you can't handle. I don't know how much knowledge they have. I was only there once.

exotic pet warehouse has basically soft coral colonies. The livestock is OK but I get good prices on dry goods when I pay in cash. Louie does not have a good understanding of reef tanks but once in while you can a good deal on some soft corals.

I think you are talking about JawsNY. Unless, exotic pet warehouse and JawsNY are both owned by guys named Louie... :)

If you want good livestock at great prices, Wonderful World of Fish is great. They've got a good selection of both fish and corals, as well as inverts. Their staff is knowledgeable and will always be willing to answer your questions and spend time with you, things that other places don't do. Their location is also not too bad, right of the Triboro Bridge. If you go when there's no traffic, you can get there in about 20 minutes or so, which is not bad.

If you want top notch service and selection, Greenwich Aquaria is the place to go. Their livestock is a bit more pricey than other places, but you get what you pay for. All their livestock is in excellent condition, they will also answer all your questions, will help you pick the fish that will be a good fit in your aquarium rather than selling you whatever you want. It's also about a 15 minute ride or so from New Rochelle.

exotic pet warehouse is in Yonkers & the owner is lou/louie. jawsny is in Elmsford correct, I went to jawsny about about 6 years ago & I will never go back prices were a rip off then I do not know if it is owned by the same person but I was not happy.

Hey Wolverine57 I just go to exoctic pet warehouse to get dry goods at a good price (pay cash).I ususally pay a couple of dollars more than internet prices for dry goods. I been going to lou since my fresh water days of snake heads & piranhas.

That funny. JawsNY (in Elmsford) is also owned by a guy named Lou... Different "Lou" I'm sure. He also gives a huge break when he sees cash...

You're right. The place is a dump right now and has been for a wile. They are rebuilding everything. When I was there, one of the kids that work there said it should all be done by mid summer. They can really shine if they do everything right with the amount of space they have...

House of Fins is a rip off and very average selection

Greenwich Aquaria might be the best store on the east coast

Jawz is a typical old school dirty smelly fish store they have healthy stuff with average selection and are not cheap.
