reinforcing 75g stand

I got a 75g and stand yesterday, nice guy. anyways I was looking at the stand and I see a few things wrong with the stand that I need to fix.
center brace- needs to be removed, plan to use a 2 by 6
bottom- not completly even, thinking about putting some foam under the STAND.

I wouldnt use foam i would maybe sand it down till its even.

The more and thicker the wood the safer. But I am no carpenter.

I'd feel better after seeing a pic, but I think a 2x6 is waaaaaay overkill. I built a stand with nothing more than high quality plywood. Compressive strenght of wood is pretty good, as long as it is built square and is braced to avoid racking.
