I don't know gal per hour but you want the carbon to tumble lightly . I was told to have it tumble like the cloths in a dryer but it seemed like the carbon was grinding itself down to a fine powder and making its way to the tank.

Tumbliing carbon will cause it to wear down very quickly. Simply passing water through the carbon will allow it to absorb impurities and tarnishing colors out of the water. You should get a small powerhead with a control valve to control the flow so that you get, at most, small, speratic bursts in the carbon layer.

I actually thought that was for phosphates (which is at aroun 100gph), and for carbon - a lot higher.

Its the other way around. GFO's are much harder than carbon and can stand up to the constant grinding that tumbling creates. But even GFO will wear away over time.

Phosban and GFO's must be tumbled ever so slightly. Just the very top lay should look like it is bubbling. Remember if you use GFO, you must rinse it until the discharged water runs clear.

Carbon on the other hand should tumble aggressively with a much higher flow.

The TLF Phosban Reactor comes with its own ball valve for adjustment. No need to add another one to the pump.

Hope this helped

after running two reactors 1 with phosban barely moving a light bubble on top and carbon wide open with a maxi jet 900 split between the two I got this

Can you do it... yes. Will it work...yes.

But as indicated earlier in the thread, they both work best at different flow speeds.
