Ok just finished and the airflow seems awsome one mt oct int ps 200. Im waiting for the "krazy glue" to set. I was originally going to use pvc cement but it didnt seem to adhere well to the material of the pump, hense the glue.

I got the idea for the glue from RC thread, should it be safe?

After doing the venturi mod I just tested it and I would say its pumping more air than my old das ex 2. The only thing is I think im gonna need to do a gatevalve as well because when I keep it at the same as I had it, its a really wet skim, but all the way down its blasting tons of tiny bubbles, I would say a 100% difference.

Im using 1/4" piece of firm tubing inserted in to the male threading end of the pump and slit the bottom of the tube to increase air flow.

It did get a bit noisy, so I put the stock air silencer on and it fit perfectly backwards, and doesnt seem to lower the air intake and totally diffuses the noise

Hey wayne, I will try and get pics up later (sorry been busy as hell). Here is the thread that I copied with the help of KILLERDRGN.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1284642

This guy used a 1/4" od hose adapter, I decided to just use a 15 or so " piece of firm tubing (similar firmness to a RODI hose, but larger) and installed it directly where he did, slitting the half facing the impeller. The noise is herrendous so I suggest using the 1/4" so u can just flip the silencer around.

I ordered the material for the mesh mod and am researching gatevalve because the mod increases water emmision from the riser tube and its tought to adjust. The bubbles are tiny and turbulent.
I promise will show pics to proove, tonight or tommorow

get kill-a-watt to measure the power it draw after mod. I was surprised so much power draw after my initial mod and have to re-adjust to prevent the pump wore out.

I think he is talking about the mesh mod i have heard that that can burn out the pump especially on the octopus. If your bubble size is already very fine dont worry about the mesh mod just go for the gate valve to control water hight in the skimmer

Great choice, I wish I bought from Leo originally, It would have saved me 50$ in home depot (wrong parts) and a bunch of trips, but im sure you'll love it when it gets the simple mod

I just got the stuff to do a mesh mod. Would this pose any benefit if the bubbles are already fine? Or is the risk of burning out pump greater than benefit because this skimmer is taking out garbage like ive never seen before
