Slow or fast Drain and return?

many people around the world, have different methods, I recently seen an elos tank, and I notice it has a slow drain, The european's believe in a slow drain,as they say it is better to have a slow drain and return, and let the wavemakers produce the current, whats do you guy think about this? slow or fast?

I have and use a slow return. My sense is unless you custom build your tank or add on larger overflow boxes, prefabbed tanks tend to have fewer or smaller overflow openings.
I have a 1" return on my 30g cube, wish it was larger...
If I had a larger overflow opening, like 2", I feel this could be a little riskier in my case. 1 snail getting into the overflow box and impeding the overflow would cause the tank levels to rise much faster, resulting in water overflowing my display tank

These latter of these 2 scenarios makes me like the slower overflow

very slow, 1 1" drain on a 180, and a lets , say a mag 7, that should be slow, nO
YOUR WATER MOVENENT WILL BE YOUR WAVEMAKER, MEANING ENOUGH WATER FLOW IN THE MAIN SYSTEM, JUST THE DRAIN AND RETURNS ARE SLOW

main reason why I ask, is I'm setting up a bunch of tanks, that will be plummed into 1 sump, something like 5 50 gallon tanks, thinking of what kind of drainage i like to go with, 3/4 , 1" or 1.5" drain, returns are definatly 3/4, large pump with ball valves to control gph..

I would go for slow return high in tank flow due to geen factor but only if I can hide the powerheads or wave makers. I am designing for a facility base on the same green factor.

Totaly makes sense. There is no needs to have a niagra falls effect going over your baffles and fuge. The flow is required in the tank and not in the fuge.

In the new 180 I am currently setting up I will have only aboujt 700 GPH going through (QuietOne 4000). Flow inside will be generated by either 4-6 Koralia 4s or 2 Koralia 4s and 6 SEIOs 620s
