metal halides 10k, 14k, 20k?

what actually is the difference of the three bulbs and is any one particular one better for a reef tank

10k has a more white/yellow color to it....14/15k has more white/bluish color and 20 has more bluish color. As far as it goes for which is better for a reef tank, there are others here that can better answer that question.

a lot of companies are FOS with the color ratings. Be careful all 10k or 20k bulbs are not the same.

wow you are right...i thought they only made SE bulbs in 175w. I guess u learn something everyday

chances are if he has 150w bulbs they are DE

There are 150 watt SE bulbs but they generally aren't used in the aquarium industry.

i always thought the higher the kelvin the more growth

u get the same growth out of 14k as 10k.plus14k gives the corals more vibrant color.ive used both and had good growth with both.plus my sps grow so fast i might switch to 20k to slow them down.but phoenix 14k are excellent.
