I just purchased a used 150 gallon Oceanic Reef Ready Aquarium and I'm curious as to what size bulkheads are required and also what is the maximum flow rate that the overflows can handle so I can purchase an appropriate pump. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

I just finally managed to measure mine and I have two 1 3/4 inch holes and two 1 1/2 inches holes. Is their any way to speculate what the max flow would be. I'm looking to purchase the right plumbing as well since I have never done this before (I always used non-reef ready aquariums).

the holes fit 1" and 3/4" sch 40 bulkheads. The sch 80 won't fit.

like mentioned above each of the 1" drains are rated for 600 gph each.

if your tank came with the hose-barb bulkheads, i would get yourself 2 standard 1" bulkheads for your drains and 2 3/4" standard bulkheads for your returns. the max drain capacity is 1200gph, as far as pumps go, you can use anything between 1000gph to 1500gph, just have a valve and union on the return so you can adjust the flow and for maintenance.

Does anyone know of a good online retailer with great prices and shipping of where I can purchase all the overflow plumbing from? I'm gather that schedule 40 bulkheads are better then the standard?

Schedule 40 bulk heads are thinner than sch 80. 80's are heavy duty ones.

The cheap ones are fine if you don't wrench them tight enough to break them.

check with MR vendors. They can probably get you what you need, and help with setup too.

Bad Coffee, I'm interested in the stronger Schedule 40. Could you make a recommendation of a particular Manhattan Reef Vendor?

Plumbing!

Hello,

As Irisservice stated the mega flow kits are pretty standard and straight forward for use with your tank. It comes with everything you'll need to do the plumbing and is very easy to install. Good Luck with the new tank and feel free to ask any questions that you may have because many of your fellow MR members use that kit and can advise you.

Thanks :approve:
