inches inside a tank

I would like to know, how many fishes do you keep in your tank and what size is the tank. Would like to know if there is a restriction on the amount of fishes that can be kept in a tank.

i have 10 cutting down to 7 in a 50g breeder 36x189x17 and alot of other factors included, can the system handle it, skimmer big enough and type of fish

when i first was interested in the hobby i calculated how many fish could fit in X size tank and boy was i off! It depends more on the type of fish, for example, yellow tangs only get a few inches long, yet they need alot of swimming space because they're very energetic! also, a smart aquarist will choose livestock that fits different niches, different areas in the tank to minimize conflicts. i suggest doing a little more reading, in books and on the forums, and even livestock websites will tell you a fish's suggested minimum tank size. the biggest part of the hobby is not to rush into it! Look at people's tank threads and see what they have, and read their comments too of course!
