Ballast Issues

I am having problems with my MH ballast. It randomly turns off during the day and then refires after the lights have had time to cool down. I thought it was that the ballast was getting too hot but this morning it took almost 15 minutes to fire. I know my DC8 and ACJr are working correctly as the moonlights flipped off at exactly the right time.

Any ideas?

Do you by chance have your ACJr set to turn off the MH if the water temp gets to hot?

COuld be a bad bulb.

I remember back when I had my first ballast, it would do the exact thing you described with one bulb and when i got another new bulb it stopped and worked fine.

Is the bulb old?

It is an electric ballast. And I DO have my ACJr set to turn off when the water gets to hot, but it is currently 78.4 degrees.

The bulb is 5 months old. It only recently began giving me problems though - if it was the bulb, shouldn't it have been giving me problems for the last 5 months?
