Ro/di Help!!!

I've 6 stage 100GPD RO+DI Reverse Osmosis after changed new 100gpd membrane, DI and all filters, run over night TDS still reading 26ppm!

Tested tap water in 39ppm after first 3 stage 39-42, after RO(membrane) 26ppm, after DI same 26ppm. bought another new 75gpd membrane after RO(membrane) 14ppm after DI same 14ppm.

my friend has the same unit tried with both my new membranes and same TDS inline meter all "0" after RO(membrane). what could be wrong with mine??? could it be the "RO membrane housing" please help thanks!

Those in-line meters can't be all that accurate.Try a hand held like the Hanna or HM digital.

I get different readings with the hand held.14ppm is pretty high.Even If I see one,I'm not putting it in my tank.It has to be Zero or nothing.

Just a thought but did you maybe disconnect some of the tubings thus causing you to bypass the RO membrane?

I've checked and tested each stage more than 10 times...I think I might have cracked and damage the RO hosting by pulling out the membrane. I'll c what happen tonight when i get home thanks for replying Plam....

With both membranes it looks like neither was doing much. Here are some potential causes:
1. Neither membrane was installed properly - they were never pushed all the way in and therefore never did seal fully. What is the ratio of waste water to purified water you are seeing?
2. You have low pressure - too low for the membrane to work. What is your pressure?
3. Your RO membrane housing is bad, and waste water is leaking out the purified water port.

First, try removing the RO membrane. Check the two o-rings on the membrane stem to make sure they are there and not damaged. Shine a flashlight in the housing and see if you can
see any cracks or damage to the little cup at the far end of the housing into which the stem of the membrane seats. Damage (e.g., cracks) may or may not be visible.

Next - check your prsssure with the pressure gauge that came with your system. If you bought one of those ebay cheapies it probably didn't come with a meter - we have pressure gauge add on kits you can install.

Next - check your waste to purified water ratio. Line up about 8 identical drinking water glasses. In the time it takes to fill one with purified water, how many can you fill with waste water?

I bet your DI resin is exhausted. If you're getting 16ppm out of the RO, and then 16ppm out of your DI, your DI isn't doing anything.

When is the last time you changed your prefilters and carbon block? If they're caked with gunk, they're going to reduce the cleaning potential.

Tried 2 new DI. no difference before or after DI.

I'm in brooklyn, my filter setup is:

1: prefilter 1micron
2: carbon block
3: DI resin

And my TDS is 0. The DI resin does the work. did you run a gallon or so of water through the DI before metering it?

Try just going from your pre-filters to the DI. and see what you get on your meter. Have you calibrated the meter lately?

You could check the housings are plumbed correctly. Make sure the 'In' and the 'Out' markings on the housings are correct.

also, are you sure you're connected from the RO to the DI from the Clean water out, not the 'waste?'

tested the DI it's crap! in 39ppm out 39ppm to 42ppm it does nothing! ebay sucks!!! will never use those filter ever again!!!
I think i found the problem...

I spent a little more and got a distiller. Yes, its much slower than a ro/di unit but it has less parts to go wrong and the water is purer.

Yes - looks like your RO membrane housing is bad. Nice pictures by the way. When you seat the RO membrane stem into that cup, the crack will open up. The inside surface of the cup may be rough at the crack and may have damaged the two orings on the membrane stem. Make sure you inspect the orings before installing the membrane in a new housing.

Another symptom that will help you identify when the RO membrane housing is bad is a waste:permeate ratio that shows too much permeate.

That crack will allow waste water to exit the RO permeate port, and that will of course lead to a very shortened life span for your resin.

Got the housing and the DI today Thanks for the great fast service Russ from(bFS) water came out big "0" yay!!!!!

test after RO "0"

also tested like "Bad coffee" set up
1: prefilter 1micron
2: carbon block
3: DI resin
Amazingly 39ppm in big "0" out! with out waste any water! makes me wonder how many gallon of water can the DI produce?

very true! even tho it reads 0, after tested with hanna meter still 0.06, now i'm running phosban with my top off tank.
