here is a pic of my sump, this is a model 1, I have a model 3, but same layout

sump.jpg

the area between the ball chamber and sponge is only about 8 inches wide and under the chamber is only about 4-5 in. I want to get an asm g-1 but it won't fit, I need about half an inch more space. I was thinking of notching the small wall where the sponge is. Does anyone think that is a bad idea and if so, is there a skimmer that yall would recommend that would fit that tight spot? (btw, I know, poor planning, that's what I get for listening to a lfs instead of starting here, hind sight is 20/20):iamwithst

yep, if you really really want that skimmer, spend a bit of extra cash ($50) and build a new sump.

check online for tank sizes, and start from there. look at 10-20 gallon tanks. Also remember that higher tanks are a bit harder to work in in cramped space, like under your stand.
