Does anyone have low ph tests on their RO/DI water from home system? My water in hoboken is a bit lower than neutral on tap, and acidic after RO/DI. I always have to buffer up the make up water, but the Salt mix always seems fine. Doe anyone else notice this with their water?

Thanks

You actually cannot get an accurate pH reading from water that is as pure as RO/DI water. Water's properties as a liquid make it in pure form (no salt), an extemely sleazy compound in terms of its ability to accept or donate H+ ions. As such, if you measure it's pH on a pH meter (while it should be 7.0) it moves all over the place depending on what's also there or added, i.e. it has no buffering capacity!

Since salt mix has Mg and salt, when added to pure water it buffers it to pH 8.0 ish! The pH is then incredibly stable because of the high buffering capacity of the mix!
