so far I'm planning on a steel stand with a removable wood skin
the tank will be acrylic 1" thick 72L X 36W X 24 deep
I am building the tank and originally was going with 2 corner boxes but toying with the idea of external overflow boxes to make it easier to maintain

I need some ideas!

rather than router out slots in the back wall was thinking of a slot where I can slide in egg create or another type of screen so I can keep it clean
suggestions?
hope to begin this project after memorial day
Thanks!

I have external overflows on my 220, and think they are great. They open up a lot of room in the tank, that would otherwise be occupied by the internal overflows. My tank in in wall, with a fish room behind it giving me very easy access to the overflows. As they are rather large (51 inches long, 15 inches tall, 9 inches wide), I occasionally use them as a make shift holding tank.

I am currently holding a dendro in the overflow.

There are slots/teeth that separate the display tank from the overflow.

here is a pic.

Acrylic tank?
I was thinking of cutting a slot to slide in egg create so they can be reomoved for easy cleaning

Thanks for the pics

Glass, eurobraced.

You could go with egg crate, but I don't think I would like the look of it. If you are making the tank yourself, why not make a set of acrylic teeth that you can slide out. You could use some scrap acrylic and, it would look a lot nicer than egg crate.

I have also seen a commercial set of "teeth" that would work as well. I would need to look for it though, I think I saw somebody using them in the Large Tank forum on RC.

the pic mesch sent you frank, is what i want to do but one on each side of the tank, the tank will be in the wall seviced from behind from fish room in basement. the opening in the wall would only go from the front of the skimmers so you wouldn't really see anything in the tank, except returns and wavemakers and so forth. i like this idea, but i don't know if your tank is in the wall or free standing in the open?
