As far as I know, its not bad, but corals can only absorb so much light per day. They also go through a normal period of releasing co2 at night when the lights are out.
But in your case, substituting longer photo period is not a replacement for weak lighting if thats what you're trying to achieve.
Do you have any actinic lighting at all that you can leave on an hour before and after your regular lighting cycle? Moonlights overnight are suppodedly good for your fish as they then don't have to fear any predators (hey, they don't know they are actually in your living room, I don't think evolution taught them about that yet...)
Your regular light cycle should be in the neighborhood of about 8 hours a day of the full blast lights going ..others will chime in with various times I'm sure, but 24 hours a day is a definite no-no!
On another note I see that evertime I cut a acan polyp in have it makes new ones on the side and heals very fast. is that a normal way to grow the coral?
Look you do it that way so all of you can have the nice coral you ask for. Your way is good but then coral would cost alot more. and we dont need to take from the sea.
