I got a frag of and orange sponge about 5'' it just had a few questions I loooked into the sponge before I got it but did not find much info on them.

I know some can be toxic when dead how do you know then it is dead will it loose it color or look diffrent. will it start to break apart?

How much do they grow this one is a finger or tree sponge (will post a pic later today)

Is it ok to Frag them or is this the start of the end of the is sponge

thanks for any help!!

Tough to answer your specific questions without knowing the species you are referring to.

"Research Before You Buy" includes asking questions on MR :)
I couldnt agree more out of the 5000+ species of poriferans more than one can be called an "orange finger" sponge its kind of like saying what are the needs for my "blue fish".

if you have a picture or binomial nomenclature for the creature it would help out immenesly.

without knowing information I would say "dont frag it until you know more about it, dont expose it to air, and if you see large sections losing color to white its a sign of dying, and yes many many sponges are quite noxious when dying. microbubbles=potential death, ample filter food is needed rfor all sponges (ample being defined by the species)"
