Go to a plumbing supply. You dont need lab grade. I went to the place house of fins gets it from in greenwich connecticut they had 2 different grades I got what house of fins uses which is the lower grade stuff, the reason is because the co2 is blown off the only thing its doing it lowering your PH nothing is breathing it. I have the effluent leading into where my skimmer intake is so the co2 really never has a chance to get into the tank itself(I think it keeps my PH balanced)

Lab grade is purified according to specification of highly sensitive laboratory equipment. Manufacturers of these pieces of equipment specify a purity level for the gases and this is what the lab grade is geared towards. When unwanted impurities are present, performance of laboratory instruments may be compromised, or the instrument itself may be damaged.

In our aquariums all we are concerned with is lowering the PH and we do not need a specific purity level to get that. You can pay the higher price for the lab grade co2 but your not gaining anything from it.

welder's grade has a small amount of oil and impure water to it. home and food grade is better, but the lab grade is best.

I would be happy using food grade, that's what the bars get. it should be easy to find.

Welding shop. Industrial grade co2 $20 refills. I dont remember the name of the place but I know that queens has a bunch of places. You cant get it refilled in manhattan for some reason its illegal to refill bottles for people you have to trade them in.

Refill it. If you trade it in you get a garbage loaner that was probably used by someone welding with who knows what kind of residue on it. Not to mention it will look like its been used for welding. If your starting out with a new bottle make sure you keep it.
