Wiping your glass

So over the past few months I've been "experimenting" with my tank in a very simple way. For say 3 weeks I would not wipe the glass in the tank at all and then for the next 3 weeks I would wipe the glass weekly.

What I noticed and i dont know if it was just me, but corals grew almost double as much in the 3 weeks my hands never touched the water, than when I was wiping the glass weekly. I've done this a few times and it's always the same, so now i barely wipe my front glass. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Is the stuff on our arms(oils and what have you) enough to screw up growth?

Dude, you need to get with the program and buy a mag float, then scoop it out with a fish net.

My tank is glass, figured acrylic would be a PITA with scratches....Thanks for the offer WTSG

I think the film on the glass could be reflecting more light back into the tank that otherwise would escape through the glass. So your hands being or not being in the tank could have nothing to do with it.

why scoop out the magnet at all? I leave mine in a back corner.

Kris, when you were doing your experiment, were you doing anything else in the tank? When was your last big water change for each test? Did you feed the same? how was your skimmer performing each time?

I think the fish net is used to scoop out the algae that is coming off, not the mag float, lol.

In the past i noticed that leaving the mag in the tank will be a problem, first it starts to build stuff up on it and makes it less effective which you would need to remove to clean anyway, second. if your using mh in your setup and it's getting direct light it seems to weaken the plastic bristles in
time on the wet side of the magnet which also reduces its effectiveness. third, anywhere i put that thing it's an eye soar.

Didnt see this thread til now. Same thing the whole time. Water changes remained the same, dosing every other day, and a SKIMMER?(what is that?)..Feeding also the same, mysis once daily, pellets once daily, and cyclo 3 times a week.

I think it has more to do with the fact that watching the tank weekly you see less changes than watching the tank every 3 weeks.
