Refugium Lighting

I was checking my nitrates today, and they're about 40 ppm! This comes to a shock, and I think my refugium isnt functioning to full potential. Currently I'm running a regular 15 watt flourescent buld over the 10 gallon refugium. I have grape caulerpa and chaeto in there. What lighting would you guys suggest?

2x1000 watt MH with six VHO's :lol:

double up the flo. or throw a 24 or 32 watt p.c. on it 8000k

Geezeeee bro...somethings not right there..I'd go with what Sean said. Over my "fuge" I got one of those spiral HD 6500K bulbs running, on a Lowes $3 fixture with a clip. Does wonders for the fuge, and if your on a budget helps out a lot. Cost me $11 total. I've seen a bunch of other people doing the same thing.

The other option is a Lights of America 65w pc fixture. about $30 at home depot. Look for the one with "Flourex"

They're 6500 K.

I 2nd BC on the Light of America. I had one and the plants grow like crazy. The bulbs replacement is high though like $15 or so.

Hey Jawwad,

Here is a link to the bulb that I used. You seen my refuge, it's full of cheatos...usually have to prune it every two weeks. It's the same bulb the guys in RC is talking about. Make sure you get the 5100K

Joe, what kind of a fixture am I suppose to use that on? A regular desktop lamp?

Works on a regular desklamp, or one of those $3 clip on fixtures.

i have the refuge bulbs at my place if you want 6 dollars for a used one, and 12 dollar for a new one. i got two use ones and 1 new one. it's the 5100K that melev on RC has.
