loosing shrimps????

ive been buying shrimps left and right
what could be killing them
water is good nitrite,nitrate, amonia -0 only phosphates a little high working on it and ph-8.2 temp 78
fish or killers lol
hippo tang 5 in
two clown fish
tomato clown
clarkii clown
3 wrasse
i also lost a small anthia havnt seen him in a month

what is it are they hiding or dead

What test kits are you using.. My wrasse destroy shrimp.. Labouti, Mystery and clown.. Cleaners hide a lot in the beginning..

regular saltwater master test kit and for phosphates i use instant ocean i have two labouti but there only one inch i havnt seen my blood red shrimps in a month and i just got 4 peppermint shrimps from wingo and there gone

Salifert is what I use.. It measures the water to the parameters that keep fish and inverts healthy and thriving.. Anything else is under that, and no good try the Salifert kits...m
Even though there are better out there.. This is all that is needed....

Those test kits are inaccurate.

Tank size has nothing to do with it.

If you see shrimps dying(frequently), one major reason could be iodine which happens to be also related to anthelia's health.

See, my low tech 10G still holding 6 pp and 5 cleaner plus tons of grass shrimp alright. HAHA

Before checking Iodine levels, check for high nitrate levels and fluctuating parameters.

I'm sure that's it.

shrimps r very sensitive to sg level swings. depending on what the sg diff r, acclimating over 1 hr may b needed. try doing 2-3 hr with slow drip n measure sg level to make sure it matches.
if thats not the reason,then i would guess its the wrasses.

My Peppermint shrimps come out late in the night. Way after the lights come off. I once thought my shrimp died but i see them once in a while late in the night. They are generally scared of larger fish so would hide more often if you got bigger fish. Before giving up take off the lights and wait an hour or 2 and see if they come out. Unless you see their corpses then you don't really know if they are dead.

i had some fish die while ago for no obvious reasons, i did my tests and were all negatives, all i could do was change my RO water supplier, add activated carbon, and do 25% water changes. good luck.

We drip all our invert additions for 2+ hours. They are very sensitive compared to others as far as acclimation. Our tank is a 120g and the shrimps are hard to come by (see) during the day but you can usually spot an antenna somewhere in the rockwork. We have an invert eating wrasse, thankfully he isn't interested in the shrimps (knocks wood).

The test kit IMO is only as accurate as its user. We have used API test kits for the past ten years, monthly or every so often I will use a Salifert or other test kit to cross reference my results. But it has never been a problem.


Good luck trying to figure out the mystery of the missing shrimps.

what kind of wrasses do you have? your SG is okay where it is at, inverts like SG to be as close to NSW as possible, which you have.

if all levels are good and water changes are on point, i would look into the wrasse as culprit.
