Has anyone tried using corals as part filtration devices?
Corals such as pulsing xenias, zoos, mushrooms.
I'm thinking about throwing a bunch of these corals in a refugium where the light is on 24/7. Would the light be detrimental to the health of the corals? or would they just take off and grow like weeds? I would also keep some of my chaeto algae in also.

Any ideas how this setup would fair?

I would think under the right lighting in the refug that would take off like weeds but they would also use cal & alk from you system so you need to take that into account as a trade off. Another problem is you would need to get a large enough colony in your refug to make this work, you could probably go half and half and let the coral grow out. I wonder if there would be an effect on the coral from not having any darkness or night time period.

I have a bunch of tree corals in my refug, have to put them somewhere as I don't know what to do what them and I keep getting more all the time.

IME Xenia and clams don't remove enough waste to make a noticable difference in our closed systems. Better off spending the extra cash and effort on a better skimmer :D

I know I sound like a broken record....LOL.... Better skimmer, Better skimmer, Better skimmer, Better skimmer :D
