Yeah I wasn't going to do it as it's pretty expensive and they get some what aggressive after a while but I got a good deal on a very small one and broke down and bought it. It so small I have it in my 75gal and it's more than fine in there.
the cheapest i ever saw those dragon eals was for about a grand. how much did you get it for? i wouldnt be able to buy a fairly delicate animal for a thousand dollars! very pretty guy though, hope you enjoy him.
Don
Actually cost me $500 for it. Usally the very small ones go for about $1k. The last one that I got, about 11 years ago, was from a wholesaler friend of mine and it cost only $75. The hurricane really hurt the available of the eel as alot of the area where it was in Hawaii was destory and the eel moved to different area. It was never a cheap eel to begin with though.
The top of the head is white, black and gray while around the head and the jaws are orange and white with blue it in. The horns are also colored orange and white. The teeth are long spikes and purple. It's still small and will color up more as time goes on.
It's in a tank with alot of rock work and only stick out part of his head and body so it's hard to get a full shot of it body. It doing very well eat right away, something that alot of Dragon Eels don't do and it can take months some times to get them started. So I was lucky and it started eating from day one and seems to be doing very well.
Yeah I was very surprised when he took a silver side right off the stick and wanted more, he wasn't even in the tank yeah only in a 22 gal tubberware container.
Yeah I've seen the larger ones go for 3 - 5 months without touching a thing before they start to eat. The usally don't eat for a while when you move them also but he started to eat the same day I place him in the main tank.
