guys please keep in mind that many of these species are cold water creatures and will not live long in the same temps reef tanks are kept at.
if your setting up specific tanks to keep them in then please post a tank thread about it with the details so others will know what's involved in caring for what you catch. thanks

Jonathin, the lookdowns are tropical as are the porcupine puffers. They are very common in the Caribbean. In St Lucia they sell Lookdowns for 50 cents a pound to eat. They drift up on the Gulf stream and die in the winter.
The seahorses are here all year and are very common. I have collected quite a few of them and raised them.

What kind of permit do you need/have to collect? I want to go but there has been so many coastguard stops lately on the LI sound, I sure with my luck, they will stop and fine me...

You dont need a permit to salt water fish, therefore the only restriction I would see in this kind of collecting would be if the state DEC puts a size limit on certain things you catch. Other then that, you might need a parking permit for the beaches or something. But I cant see the coast guard bothering you unless you catch something that is not allowed or is too small.

Though ppl say u can u can with caution. Big one will eat shrimps but i have had success raising them and having them only eat frozen.

I keep some and use the rest as a trading chip's. Lookdown's do fine in a tank with very good watter.

I know all the tropical spices and few FL game spices that come to the local waters. Feel free to ask me about any of the fish.

No permit needed to collect tropical fish and non game fish. All u have to know is what is cities protected. There are very small amount of fish that are cities protected and to collect those u will need a permit.
