Upgrade and Flatworms

I am going to upgrade my 40Br to a 75 gallon in the near future. However, I currently have an epic flatworm infestation in my 40Br and I don't want to move that problem to a bigger tank. Here is my plan:

1) Replace 100% of the sand bed and most of the water in the new tank
2) Dip all rocks and corals as they come out of the old tank and let them sit in water with flatworm exit for at least 30 minutes (or while I am moving the new tank into place)
3) Put in aragonite live sand in the new tank.
4) Fill new tank with water.
5) Put corals and fish into the new tank.
6) Dose the new tank with flatworm exit every day for a week to get rid of any remaining flatworms.

What problems do you see with this plan?

FWE does not kill the microscopic white ones. Good luck with your upgrade.

I cannot get any other wrasses without getting rid of the ones that I have. Too aggressive. I got a mandarin and he seems to be eating some of the smaller ones? maybe. He's not getting any skinnier at least and I've had him for 3 weeks.

spraying off flatworms

I had bought some corals about four months ago (Big Leather,zoos and bunch of LPS) from a guy in SI and had never seen flatforms so did'nt realize they were on it. After noticing that spots were moving, I realized they were bugs and had to be removed. So I took the corals out and used the salt water from the tank (while doing water change) to spray the hell out of the corals and ensured that every portion of every coral plus the rocks they were attached to, were cleaned out. After making sure (visually) that all flatworms were removed, I put the corals back in the tank and gladly all of the coral survived and no sign of flatworms yet.

make sure you run carbon on the rock before you put it back into the tank.

Also, I'd go with 2 weeks on #6. In a 75 I'd do 5 drops a day.

Good call, B. I can run carbon in my phosban reactors on the bucket with all of the rock while the flatworms are dying.

What i did when i upgraded was triple the dose on the tank the night before i switched everything over to the new tank. Then i ran 1 treatment on the new setup and havent seen a FW sense.

BTW, cerith snails especially seem to be affected by FWE. They seem to get "stunned" for a couple of days. Sometimes they are never the same again.

That is why I want to treat the rocks and corals separately and out of the tank.
