The directions on the bucket are for making water at SG 1.021. I have been using trial and error to get water to 1.025 but its a pain in the but and I havent actually written down how much I used. Anyone know how much mix is needed per gallon to make 1.025 ?

hmm...that odd..i use Reef Crystal as well

I use 1/2 cup measuring cup per gallon..and when i test with my refractometer..it usually check out to be around 1.025

I'm doing water change tomorrow.I'll test again to see if I get the same result

Eric, aren't you using a refractometer to check the SG? If not, you need to get one and then you can measure how many cups you need for the volume of water you've got to mix for future ease of mixing.

I use the refractometer and the swing-arm. What's happened is I follow their directions and end up with 1.021ish as stated ( I've only done two water changes so far ) and then add more salt to raise it, but then sometimes have to add more water if I overshoot or its not sealed tight enough and evaporation occurs. So the problem is I'm not quite sure how much salt:water I end up using ( plus the HD buckets arent exactly marked for volume so its a guestimate ). I can sit and take notes next time but I figured someone here's been there, done that and can share the wealth.

one thing that i did to mark the 5 gallon HD bucket is by taking a 1 gallon bottle ..fill it up..pour it into the bucket..and mark the outside with a marker..and keep filling up the bucket and marking along the way each step

About a 1/2 cup per gallon of RO/DI water gets me 1.025 as measured by a refractometer. At times, I need to add a little more salt - I make large amounts of SW at once and the amount of water in the tub isn't always exact.

1/2 cup of RC with 1 gallon of water at 78 degree gives me 1.025. Make sure that when you check the SG you also have to check the water temperature.
