Hi all,

I have a 260G fish-only tank. Currently it has a 2" sandbed, a little live-rock, and a MegaFlow4 wet/dry.

I have an MTC HSA250 skimmer. I can't get it to work, and I've been trying for a couple of months. I suspect the problem might be that the water level in the sump changes pretty rapidly, and I don't have an auto-top off yet. If I fill up the sump too much the skimmer overflows. It's flooded my carpet three times. And once the water level drops a milimetre then it stops producing anything at all. It seems very very sensitive.

When working, it does seem to work, just never for very long. I have an AquaC EV180 on my 175 reef, and I just dropped it in and it's worked great since day 1.

The tank isn't heavily stocked, and I don't intend it to be.

Any skimmer recommendations?

Thanks

In-sump skimmers perform better when there are placed in consistent water levels. Instead of looking for another skimmer which may perform as badly as your current one, try addressing the top-off issue...it may be cheaper too.
