before everyone goes to sleep can someone give me advice on what type and size socks to get. I want one sock to cover both of my 1.5" drains so they need to be wide and long.
what material do you use, links would be appreciated.

thanks so much :)

the drains are right next to eachother, they share space with the protien skimmer.
the water is about 19" deep.

I'll dig up a photo

this is when the sump was being tested, there is now the protein skimmer in front of the drains.

:) I don't mind the cleaning, I also want them for when I blow the crap off the rocks.

I just got ten of the 100 micron, maybe I'll get some 50's as well.

you can never have enough socks ;)

J, when you blow all the crap off of the rocks the 100 micron is super useful. It will catch just about anything and keep it out of your sump and equipment. Definitely a good choice for BB tanks.

Jon I have a couple of bags for ya.....they're the perfect size for what you need. I no longer use them because my new sump has a holder for the type with the plastic rings.

I use women knee high's... 2 pairs (4 socks) for a buck. Comparable to any 100 micron sock anyday. Little trick I learned from someone at NR.com.
The most important thing to remember w/ micron sock is to clean em out constantly, by that i mean 2-3 days max...yea Fo' REAL!! If not it'll just become another sponge for crap.
W/ the Knee high's I just take it out every 2-3 day and out the garbaage' they go. Put a fresh crisp whitie in there w/ a zip-tie and boom I'm done. :)

Oh, I like the knee high idea, but is it the same in cost? I bought 3 100 mc at like $17 each and change them once avery 2-3 days depending on my heavy feeding hand.

I take em out, put in fresh, clean the pods et al out of the dirty's and turn them inside out for cleaning in the washing machine (double rinse, cold water only, no detergent.

In the long run, I think cost-vs-cleaning is an individual decision. I'll clean since it's all right there in the room.
