OK, this might be a dumb one, but, it never hurts to ask - Has anyone heard about too many pods being a bad thing. Not saying that's the case with my tank yet, but I was going to add another culture or two today, to build back up what my mandarin may have eaten in the last few weeks. That would be in addition to the 1 culture I added to the fuge 3 days ago. So all in all ~ 3 cultures going in, each about 1000 pods total in less then 7 days. Anyone think this unwise??? I was also considering adding the 2nd culture directly to the tank and trying to raise the 3rd outside in a sepperate container. Thoughts? Thanks.

no, I would not worry about putting too many pod in the tank.
you could keep one just to make sure you always have food for the mandarin. but once established the population should do fine in the tank.

where are you geting the cultures from and how much??

Hi Cibo,

Quick story of my misery - I just got a culture from Adelaide at www.livecopepods.com, great site and real nice lady, but, The pods were 24.99 for 3 dif. types in a 4 oz. (about 1000), Tiger pods being the largest. Shipping was $65 :irked: so it was expensive, today I went to New World Aquarium and got two cultures of Tigers in a 6 oz. bottle (each bottle was 6 ounces) - one to try and rear outside in a sepperate 5 gal. tank and another to add to the fuge. These cost me a whopping 24.00 per bottle. Like when I started reefing - I should have waitied and done my research. Learn from my mistakes...

Hey pods are selling for 19.99 a bottle at country critters in Patchogue. I was thinking about getting them for my tank as well. But then saw I have quite a few in my sump.

not to take business away from the pod people, but if you need pods locally just ask someone to borrow a used filter sock. there should be more pods than necessary in a used one. rinse out the pods and mail the sock back nice and clean.
I just took down an auxiliary sump and there were hundreds of mysis swimming around.
I saved as many as I could.

NWA is on 38th btwn. 2nd and third avenues in manhattan....nice selections, a little pricy on the goods, specially the sps, but what do you expect in the city where you can pay $125 for a burger. Still I reccomend it for the rare stuff, e.g that had a bat fish (all black with red bands on it's outer parts of the fins) - GORGEOUS, the other week that was eating black worms...some lucky guy got it..:birthday:

fish alert:
while cool looking Batfish are not reefsafe, grow to a large size (2'+) and need a huge tank with other fish that will not pick at them. they are really only suited for a species only tank and imo should be left in the ocean.

I think we may be talking about two different fish - that's what the guy told me at the store it was called, but after googling it, that certainly was not it...I'm gonna try and find a pixx of what it was and post...Can I Post a pic if I didn't take it?
