Damn! I'm thinking about starting the upgrade sooner then expected, so that way it wont damage the table its sitting on right now. I wanted to use the metal stand and make something around it, but it doesn't seem sturdy enough, especially on a thick carpet. Do you think it will stay balanced on a metal stand?

Yea, I like the table, and its made from solid wood, but I dont know if it will be strong enough for the 90, and the space below it is limited for the sump (as you can see in the pics)

I asked because of the finish, the top will not be the same when you move the tank

There are some really nice and easy projects I can turn you too on RC. But like you said, you have to have the stand completely level. If not level the seams on the aquarium will give, then youll be in a world of ****. (I went through that)

After that incident I cut out the carpet. Got Durock from HD and tiled the section where the aquarium stands. Looks good and is safe. Its easier to do than people think and quick too. It can all be done in time for afternoon BBQ & Beer.

This thread is a good example of a well planned system. This guy used a metal stand and utilizing strong magnets to keep the front and sides in place. Awesome cause after pulling off the front and sides you have great access to your system. The choice of finishes are endless.

If you need help with tiling, just let me know....

The last tiling job was in my old place. I just bought a place and am redoing the entire thing. I will take pictures of the installation of tiles so you have a better idea.
