okay, i think i have the siphon working. as leo said, the return for the sump is in the middle, leaving the last section completely closed off and empty. can i put LR and a dSB in there with a light, or should i leave it be?

I finally realized today that the middle hole that has the leaking problem is a bulkhead. Is there a plug or something that is supposed to fill it? Also, im having trouble starting the siphon. I have airline tubing that fits in the air hole on top of the u-tube. When i pour water into the overflow box it goes right down into the sump and doesn't give me enough time to start the siphon
Is it the middle of the bulkhead which is leaking? or the outside rim of the bulkhead?
If its the middle, Home depot should have a plug for bulkheads. Get some teflon tape while you're there for the plug.
If its the outside rim, then you might just need to center the rubber gasket when you tighten the bulkhead (make sure the sloppy silicone job isn't in the way or it probably will leak which is why i suggested against the silicone in the first place)

Finally Working

After gallons of tankwater swallowed and getting shocked at least five times, i have FINALLY gotten the sump to run. In the first compartment i put the intake hose and my coralife 125 super skimmer. in the last i have the return and my phosban. Here are some pics. I was thinking about putting a sump inhabitant into the tank, but i think the micro-bubbles and powerheads will cause problems. Is it okay to have my filters where they are? or should i move them elsewhere. Also should the skimmer have bubbles or should the water be clear like it is

I found something called a jonny cap to cover the bulkhead. It seems to do a good job sealing the bulkhead, but it has some metal on it. im pretty sure its galvanized. Let me know if this is aquarium safe please
