Who is using them and what do you think about them in a reef tank?

i dont think they should b use unless you're doing some drastic cleansing , ie. copper, toxins, ammonia, iodine, fwe ,etc...

Why would it be bad to use Poly Pads? Will they also remove needed trace elements or something? And while we're on the topic of filter media, what about using the Pura ones

i have been getting the 12x12in pad for years ( poly bio marine pads)

I use them too instead of carbon. I just hate rinsing carbon. U can see the pad change color as it exhaust so you know when to change them as opposed to carbon, its just guessing. But Using poly pads might cost more than carbon tho.

NOTE: Poly Filter will not soften water or remove trace minerals.

I wonder if carbon removes trace minerals.

I use poly pads in my nano, and alot of closed topped nano users use them due to the fact that they cannot use a skimmer with their closed top systems. they help to pull out all of the bad ammonia, dissolved organics, phosphates etc, and i would not want to have system running without one.
