show me your overflow drains

Hi All,

I just drilled (2) 1" bulkhead into my 120gal. I have strainers on the bulk heads for the overflow. Ok, show me your overflows, I've noticed that 90% of the tanks has a full height overflow, anyone out there with overflows that are near the top of the tank?

BTW: drilling 3/8" thick glass is a bit nerve racking, did'nt want to crack the tank. I had no problems w/ the diamond chip hole saw.

you could do an external durso. Put a T on the outside and cap the top drill a hole for an air valve and you're good to go.

Brett, thats a lot of meat to cut out of a tank.

One BulkHead two washers and a Durso.

For the durso to work it has to be in a box.

Now that Brett is off on the road, I'm going to attempt to do the same exact overflow on a 29 gallon in the next month or so. Wish me luck!

The drain facing downward does that make alot of noise? have you tried it facing up?
What size is your tank?

"Wish me luck!" you read the thread on RC someone did the same thing, the back of his tank blew out. GOOD LUCK!

Peter, the elbow in the middle facing downward is the intake for a closed loop. The drain is in the blue overflow box facing down. Its a DIY, now there for sale www.barraquatic.com/overflows.php

Not really. I have the top support, and also the whole sheet of plexi in front siliconed down. I'm not the least bit worried!

I think his problem was he cut one corner square. Thats where it cracked.

Ive also got that external overflow as per Tunjee's thread, ive got a nice deep box too..easy breezy lemon squeezy...ive got no problems sleeping at night so its all good.

I need to go to Home Depot to get the cap for the drain to make the overflow silent, but the gurgling as it is now doesn't bother me.
