hey guys need some advice on a lighting for a temporary tank I'm setting up while in the middle of a move. The tank is 36 x 18 and is 12in high. I'm going to justvkeep a bunch of sps from my 120 in there till I get a tank for my new place which should be a year from now. I still have all my equipment from my other tank which ncluded 400w reeflux bulbs, coralvue ballasts and lumenarc reflectors. I'd like to just use one of the bulbs from my previous setup but have a couple questions. 1) lotta debate on this I know but will 1 400 a bulb be too much on the tank? And 2) what type of reflector or fixture wiu you suggest for the siZe of this tank? Thanks , Nate

Nate,

This a 30g right? I think a 400watt bulb at that depth would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much light. Over my 40breeder, same footprint just 4 inches taller I'm running a 150DE bulb. It's enough for SPS, probably not on the ends but defeinately for the good portion of the center of the tank.

I agree 400w on that tank is alot. 150 would be good. 250 would be ok too.

Yeah, if I had the choice where I was buying one from the start, I'd go with the 150, but 400 is what I got at the moment. Still debating on it either being a little too strong or way too strong.

Also, any fixture suggestions?

Actually, what am i thinking. I forgot that I have a handy dandy light meter. I'll just use that to see what par readings I'm getting to determine if 400 is too much.

Yeah, so anyways, any suggestions for a fixture?
