What is considered the Cadillac of chillers. My 70 gallon is running at 80 even with a fan over the sump.
I am looking for the best, quiet, maintainence free and what ever else one looks for in a chiller. Oh yea, it wont' fit in the stand. that is why I want is small and quiet.
Also, I assume there is a built is pump ??
Thanks.

pumps arent built in and you wouldnt want it in the stand anyways. chillers put off alot of heat, you are going to need atleast a 1\5th hp or a 1\4 hp i like my current chiller it control's my heater as well

my tank hovers at 81. with my 1/10th Pacific coast imports chiller (pc280?)

In the heat of summer I have to kick on the room AC to have the chiller keep up.

It's on a 58 with a sump.

In my opinion and from what I have read before acceptable ranges would be within 78-84. Like most things in this hobby you need to see what works for your tank, if animals are exhibiting signs of stress then cooling things down might be a good idea.

I picked up a chiller this summer because last summer my tank ranged 80-90+ and my animals showed it. I purchased a current chiller on ebay from current's online store. I purchased model 2606 1/3 hp. The chiller sells new for $600, from the online store which is b-stock I paid about $350.

oh yeah one last thing, 1/3hp isn't necessary for your size tank. If you can get one cheap go for, otherwise I believe 1/5hp should do the job. Just an opinion once again, so look around

If your tank is running at 80 degrees I wouldn't sweat it. :splitspin Generally reefs see large temp swings in the wild the temps of 90 degrees not unusual. If I remember correctly average worldwide tropical reef temps are about 84 degrees.

my tank hovers around 82 degrees and i do have a chiller, i set it to kick on at 83.5 degrees and i have no issues with corals. i use a tradewinds drop-in chiller. they are loud but very efficient.
