I cant get this pump to run when I put the mesh wheel on it. I have done this to many skimmers but this crappy overpriced pump refuses to start with it. Its really annoying me because there the only pump that practically endorses the mesh wheel but has the worst restart ability. Much hate for this pump

i got it going after meticulously making sure ties were as tight as possible and mesh was rediculously neat. I almost always have to blow through airline to restart as Prefect suggested and starts everytime like that. It work 100X better after mod. The needle wheel makes for a very average skimmer, the mesh makes it a monster. A must do in my opinion, but its a bit of a pain especially because you need to be the hulk to open up the pump.

i have mine with 3 layers on mesh and tied it with fishing line....works fine...no restart issues....sometimes it chatters for a sec. but then it kicks in on its own...
also the reducer on the intake of the pump makes a difference...and the airline tube should be about flush with the hole that it goes in..not pushed in at all
goodluck dude

Auto, what do you mean by the above? I have the msx/octopus skimmer but it's not skimming that great. Maybe this is the problem?

ok....lets take the airline tubing...one side goes to the silencer...and the other side goes to the pump...on the pump side...you will see a grey nipple that the air tube is connected to...that grey piece should go in the drilled hole slightly...maybe 1-2mm should be good...if its loose...use a bit of teflon tape to make it a snug fit...
also are you using the stock airline tubing?...the soft rubbery one...they kink very easily which can cause less air to the pump...you will need some trial and error to have it perform best with your system..
