Sand in Sump, YES or NO

I just wanted to get everyones take on this. I am thinking is it really necessry for sand in my refiguim. Right now I have Cheeto, Mangrove and See Grass in there with a 4 inch sand bed.

One of the problem's I am expereinceing is that every time I turn the cheeto around all this deebre comes up form the sand every where and ends up in my tank for a while :irked:. I am wondering if its even necassary, interms of controlling my nitrate levels.

I do have sand in the main tank. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Deanos, I was wondering if all my pods /snails that are all over the sump will still be happy with out any sand in the sump. Sorry if these dumb questions but I have been having Nitrate problem and i know some of it is because I have skipped a few water changes here and there but I am on that now1

you can use a container and hold come sand....that way you can take it out if you want..
