First, I would like to say it was a pleasure meeting some of you face to face during Midnight Madness. As some of you may already know, I?m a regular viewer and fan of Manhattan Reefs. I believe reading the hobbyist?s point of view, on the many topics you discuss, keeps us informed and educated ourselves. I love this forum and the information it provides.
Although it?s always been my stance, forums like yours, should be kept to the true hobbyists, such as yourselves, thus leaving industry minds and point of views out of it. I feel compelled to correct the record on a few incorrect statements made about us recently.
The trigger fish (Xanthichthys caeruleolineatus) mentioned in the vender sales forum was priced at $1100 and not $2500 as stated. As for rarefish1, we really don?t know who this is (although we have some idea) they are not an employee here. My staff has always been told not to talk trash about anyone, especially other shops, as it is not professional and just plain wrong. I believe we have the some of the most knowledgeable aquarists and industry minded people working for us within this profession. Of course that doesn?t mean we shouldn?t strive to improve. I constantly remind my staff they?re not as good as they think because if they?re truly the best, there is only one way to go??Down! Smugness and the lack of professional service absolutely drive me insane. A level of humility and gracious thanks goes a long way in my book.
The comment made about no local fish stores contributing to the community? I think I?ll let our record speak for itself. No one advocates this more than me. Just see how many school tours, charitable donations, contributions, and seminars around the country we?ve made over the last 5 years.
Thank you and keep up the good work,
Patrick
P.S. On another note, I was asked by a few members to post a synopsis of what I will be speaking about on Nov. 11 at the Brooklyn Aquarium Society meeting. I hope you can make it as I would love to meet some of you in person. THE MARINE AQAURIUM INDUSTRY- Behind the Scenes
A seminar about the health and handling of marine fish and corals and where they really come from. How they?re collected, imported, shipped and housed to the retailer. The talk will answer questions you may not have ever thought about when purchasing healthy livestock. Some points may astound or shock you. Become educated about your hobby, building a better industry, healthier livestock, and sustain its future. Friday, November 11 at 7:30p.m. in the New York Aquarium Education Hall.
